Although a truly
wireless home
theater system isn’t yet available, there are many
wireless components that can cut down on the numbers of cables and
wires running through your home after you set up your new home theater
system.
The advent of new technologies such as
BlueTooth and Wi-Fi are
making these kinds of systems much more accessible and will probably
eventually lead to truly wireless systems.
If you are building a home from scratch,
running wires behind nonexistent walls is certainly not a concern. The
same goes for a remodel.
However, if you’re converting an
existing room without knocking out walls or redoing the floors, running
cabling and wires for your new home theater system can easily become a
huge headache, a huge expense, or both!
Wireless speaker systems are a
simple way to cut down on costs of hiring professionals to run yards
and yards of cable, and on the confusion of where to put those cables.
Past problems with wireless speaker systems
have included interference
and battery life. However, both problems have been alleviated nicely
with new technologies. Although it won’t create a true
wireless home theater system, it will certainly make a difference in
the set up.
Transmitting frequencies and strength have
been improved greatly over the past few years. Interference –
the static or sounds of other transmissions – is rarely a
concern these days. Remote speakers are now powered by A/C plugs, or
with batteries that have a more extended life than their predecessors.
Even though there are a lot of great reasons
to have a wireless speaker system, there are simply not that many
options available yet. Pioneer offers wireless rear speakers with at
least one of its home theater in a box products.
The other options that
are available are quite pricey. At this point, they are available only
to those willing to invest in the very cream of the home theater crop.
In the future, with the technologies that are constantly improving,
this will surely change.
So, if you’re interested in making
your speaker system installation quick and easy, consider going with a
wireless home theater system. It may save you a few headaches!
